Melvin James Brown A father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, he died at 4:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at his home in Baton Rouge. He was 79. Visiting at Richardson Funeral Home, Clinton, Thursday, Aug. 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Religious service at Union Baptist Church on Friday, Aug. 12, at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. J.B. Carter Jr. Interment in the church cemetery. He is survived by his devoted companion, Florence Lavigne; daughters and sons-in-law, Larene and Thomas Chase, Annie and Clarence Chapman, and Deloris Spears; a son, Kelvin Clennon; sisters, Helen Alexander, Josie Hamilton and Edith Kilbourne; a brother, Adolphus Brown; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Brock; grandson, Keith Brown; parents, Otis and Josie Brown; two sisters, Edna Brown and Hershey Dunn; and three brothers, Felton, Otis Jr. and Frankie Lee Brown.
