Traffic stop nets arrest
Deputies arrested two people and seized over two pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop last Friday night, according to West Feliciana Parish Sheriff J. Austin Daniel. Louis D. Townsend, 29 of Tenn. and Sonia Brown, 26 of Miss. were each booked in the WFP jail on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Townsend was additionally charged with driving without a license plate. The arrest happened after Narcotics Division officer, Sgt. Chris Green, stopped a vehicle on Hwy 61 that did not have a license plate. Green smelled what appeared to be marijuana and asked Townsend questions. Townsend admitted to having marijuana and handed over a small bag to Green. Following a seach of the vehicle, Green found more marijuana hidden in a two-gallon plastic bag under a spare tire in the car’s trunk.

A.J. Nicosia wins company trip
A.J. Nicosia, a sales representative with Rabenhorst Life Insurance Company whose service area includes: St. Francisville, Clinton, Zachary and Baker, has won a company-sponsored trip to the Caribbean. Nicosia won the company’s semiannual incentive trip by leading other agents in prearrangement sales, according to Scott Rabenhorst, agency director of the competition. “Not only did Mr. Nicosia’s sales record put him in the lead, but he also exemplifies our competition’s tradition of providing expert home service to our customers,” Rabenhorst said. Nicosia and his wife, Elizabeth are looking forward to the four-day cruise to Nassau and an outer island in the Bahamas.

Angola employees earn degrees
Two students in a college criminal justice program offered at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola have been awarded associate of science degrees. Johnnie Gentile, a corrections officer and Linda Collard, mail and package room supervisor, were presented their diplomas Friday at LSU at Eunice. LSU System President Martin Woodin conferred with the penitentiary and LSU’s Baton Rouge campus, offers courses at Angola leading to the criminal justice associate of science degree.
