Spinks graduates from SMU

Nearly 1,000 University of South Mississippi students were candidates for degrees Friday, during their 2001 Summer Commencement exercises. Southern Mississippi President Horace Fleming was to confer 504 under-graduates and 419 specialist degrees during two ceremonies at Reed Green Coliseum on the Hattiesburg Campus. The USM Golf Park Campus in Long Beach has another 71 candidates including 50 undergraduates. Candidates from West Feliciana Parish included Katherine  Renee Spinks with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

AUGUST 1991 (20 YEARS AGO)

Three students recognied for literary excellence by Grace Church

Three outstanding 6th graders from West Feliciana Parish have been selected as the 1991 recipients of the Grace Church Award for Literary Excellence. The 1991 winners are Robert Scott of Tunica Elementary, Katie Spinks of Wilkinson County Christian Academy and Monica Whitfield of Bains Elementary. The students were each selected by their teachers to recive this annual award. The award seeks to recognize and encourage overall achievement in such academic fields as reading, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, poetry, and creative writing. The Rev. Kenneth Dimick, rector of Grace Church, presented each of the winners with a certificate and a $50 savings bond. This is the third year that Grace Episcopal Church has sponsored this awards program for 6th graders.

AUGUST 1981 (30 YEARS AGO)

KC elects new officers for 1981

Dale Plauche was selected grand knigh and 10 other members of the Mt. Carmel Knights of Columbus Council were tabled to be officers for the next year at a meeting held August 5th. Joseph Rinaudo Jr. was picked to be the deputy grand knight at the same proceeding. Other officers include: Jerry Marquette, chancellor; Merrick Lambert, recorder; Randy Davis, financial secretary; Rick Rinaudo, treasurer; Paul Lambert Jr., lecturer; Mac Reed, warden; Harrison Lamartinere and Bill Buckley, guards. The council also selected three trustees, Charles Bennett, Joseph Rinaudo Sr., and Ellery Hamond.
