Gussie Pauline Smith Nesom

Gussie Pauline Smith Nesom, 85, a native of Gilead and resident of Zachary, died Sunday, July 31, 2011. She retired after working for more than 10 years for the state of Louisiana. Visitation will be at Bluff Creek Baptist Church, Clinton, Wednesday, Aug. 3, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Malcolm Stuart. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Judith Nesom Genre and her husband, Mickey Genre, and Sandra Nesom Norwood and her husband, Lane Douglas Norwood Sr., all of Zachary; six grandchildren, Wendy Genre Spedale, Christopher D. Genre, Shannon Stuart Irvine, Michael S. Stuart, Lane D. Norwood Jr. and April Norwood Smith; 14 great-grandchildren, Brittany Irvine, Christopher A. Genre, Joseph Spedale, Nicholas R. Genre, Rylee Lane Norwood, Ragan M. Griffin, Kade E. Spedale, Josh Stuart, Megan Stuart, Matthew Irvine, Caleb Irvine, Jacob Irvine, Alyssa Smith and Paige Smith. Preceded in death by her mother, Nettie Pennington Smith; father, Reddon Ephram Smith; husband, Lee A. Nesom Jr.; daughter, Janice Nesom Stuart; sister, Ree Melcher; and two brothers, Seaborn Smith and Cecil R. Smith. Pallbearers will be Christopher D. Genre, Lane D. Norwood Jr., Gary Spedale, Mikel Nesom, Bryan Jon Smith, Michael Stuart, Mickey Genre and Lane D.
